The Rapist Closes Social Security Offices

From Microsoft's Co-Pilot:

The closure of Social Security offices under the Trump administration is expected to have significant consequences for recipients and applicants. With around 47 local offices slated for closure, many individuals—especially seniors, people with disabilities, and those in rural areas—may face challenges accessing in-person services.

The administration has also introduced stricter identity verification requirements, which now mandate in-person or online verification for most cases. This could be particularly burdensome for those without reliable internet access or the ability to travel to remaining offices. Additionally, staffing cuts of about 12% are likely to increase wait times and processing delays.

These changes aim to reduce costs and prevent fraud, but they risk creating barriers for vulnerable populations who rely heavily on Social Security benefits. It’s a tough balancing act between efficiency and accessibility.

Social Security, LBJ, and the Lock Box Myth

From SSA's "Internet Myth" page:  "There has never been any change in the way the Social Security program is financed or the way that Social Security payroll taxes are used by the federal government." -- The LBJ lockbox tale is a lie.

Trump Promises to Permanently Defund Medicare and Social Security

August, 2020 - WAPO  headline:  "Trump promises permanent cut to payroll tax funding Social Security and Medicare if he’s reelected"

"President Trump pledged on Saturday to pursue a permanent cut to the
payroll taxes that fund Social Security and Medicare if he wins
reelection in November . . . "

When the rapist felon says he's going to be a dictator, BELIEVE him. When he says he's going to permanently defund SS and Medicare, BELIEVE him.

No, LBJ Did Not Steal from Social Security

The notion that LBJ stole SS money is a lie. It never happened. According to the SSA, "From its inception, the Trust Fund has always worked the same way. The Social Security Trust Fund has never been 'put into the general fund of the government.'"

Raise the cap on taxable income. Expand Medicare to all. No, they will not go bust if we fund them.

What is your answer funding health and public pensions? The various trusts will all go bust   eventually without reform.

Social Security Bamboozle

Catfood Commission screws up the numbers on Social Security. Jane Hamsher discusses it here. Specifically she addresses the commission's failure to understand how limits on taxable social security wages are figured. It's worth a read.

Bush Social Security Phase-out Stalled

Those of you who've read up on Social Security know that it's a defined benefits program. That is participants have a schedule of benefits defined for them, and they know exactly what to expect to receive in the way of benefits.

Bush wanted to phase out this program and replace it with a defined contributions plan. That is, where you decide now much to put into the program and then hope like hell there's money there when you need it. Think "ENRON."

So, for those who argue that Bush wasn't trying to phase out social security, remember this comment by Bush shortly after the election of 2004 when he thought he had a lot of "political capital."

The "question is whether or not our society has got the will necessary to adjust from a defined benefit plan to a defined contribution plan. And I believe the will will be there."

Don't tell ME these guys aren't out to destroy Social Security.

"The people that are receiving these benefits, I don’t think that we should touch that," Bush went on to say. "We need to figure out a way to phase out this program for others and move to a new system that allows them to have something, because they're not going to have anything." comment
