More on the Smear Boat Vets. The people at Snopes have done a pretty good job of monitoring the current smear effort directed at destroying John Kerry's candidacy. All in all, it appears that only one of the veterans speaking out against Kerry actually served on his boat, and his story is at odds with that told by all of the remaining survivors.
The other critics either didn't know Kerry at all, served on other boats in the area, or "served in various capacities connected with swift boat operations."
Official Navy records, and comments made earlier by some of his accusers belie the allegation that Kerry was an unfit commander. As the election nears, expect the rightwingers to get nastier and nastier and more and more desperate.
