Why doesn't doss engage in name-calling? - Name-calling is a sign of extremism, intolerance, ignorance, and childishness. Besides that, it's just plain stupid. If you watch carefully, you'll see that doss never, ever engages in name-calling.
He hails from a heavily and strictly moderated chat forum (dating back to at least 1992) in which name-calling was expressly forbidden. It made sense then, and it makes sense now. Name-calling justs distracts from the discussion. There is no need for it, and it's stupid. What more can be said?
Who is doss? - This question plagues many a rightwinger, some of whom have made direct death threats at him. The answer to the question, of course, remains somewhat of a mystery for that very reason. Threats aside, the doss peace and justice center will only release the most general information about its executive director.
He's a family man, a devout Christian who is active in his church and community, especially in youth ministry. You can read an article on evangelism he wrote for his church newsletter. Also, doss likes to share this very special prayer that changed his life.
He is a businessman by profession with business and land holdings spanning three states across the southern US. He spent over a quarter century doing recording session work in the studios of Memphis, Tennessee, and over 12 years teaching at the University of Memphis.
Married in 1971, doss has known his wife since 1959.
His wife and he both work in youth ministry at their local parish; are licensed Lay Ministers and trained DOCC facilitators (Disciples of Christ in Community - University of the South at Sewanee).

When doss is in the political chat-rooms, sparks tend to fly. "It's simple," says the easy going and soft spoken doss."All it takes is to stick to the truth, and never forget that the truth will set you free."
Shrugging off threats of having his eyes scratched out, internationally acclaimed political commentator, Natchez, calmly reaffirmed his resolve to "take the high road" in a time when emotions are running high, and tempers are prone to flaring.
"We've said all along that the best thing for everyone to do is stick to the truth. Ultimately that is what all good men and women seek," Natchez advised, seeming more like a sage academician than like a firebrand political brawler as he is demonized by his enemies.
"When we have the truth on our side, these threats of violence ring a bit hollow," added doss, himself a target of several terroristic threats.
"We figure, this is part of the price we pay for living in a free society; people like me and Natchez have to stand up and take the slings and arrows hurled by those who are consumed by their hatred. It's a high price, but we are willing to pay it, because we love our country. In the end, if we don't take a stand, what sort of world will we leave for our children?"
What is the purpose of the peace and justice center?- That question is best answered by doss himself.
Some people ask me, "doss? Why do you do this? Why do you confront these people day in and day out? Challenging them this way and watching as one-by-one they fail to stand up to the demands of truth and integrity?"
And I answer, "Because the truth will set us free!"
If I can but light the way for just ONE innocent bystander whose eyes have been blinded by the lies told by the enemies of justice, then I will have done my duty and served my country, and indeed mankind, as my Creator has called me to do. This is a mission, and I cannot turn my back on this calling. No less than the fate of our planet hangs in the balance.
And good people answer the call! My friend Natchez and I fight a lonely battle. But we take comfort knowing that in the end, truth, honor, integrity, justice, and the goodness of God Almighty himself will prevail.
And our work will not have been in vain!

Why all the name-calling? - This question comes up time and time again, and Natchez and I have noted how right wingers use juvenile name-calling, talk of body parts, bodily functions, nonsensical slang, sex, the degrading of women, etc. to get their ''point'' across. Others have noted that they've hardly ever seen anyone except right wingers behave like that.
One theory advanced by Natchez is that right wingers are simply angrier and more frustrated than the rest of us, because deep down they see the rest of the nation moving further and further away from them. Natchez observes that they're just very frustrated and angry, and it makes them behave like nasty-minded children.
The doss peace and justice center seeks to modify this anti-social tendency and strives to elevate the discussion to a level of maturity, intelligence, and reasoned discourse. Unfortunately, many of our friends from the hard core rightwing simply refuse to let go of what Red Rock Digest has called "the new jargon of hatred."
